Michael Canode , 71 Jan 5, 1950 - Jul 8, 2021 Michael Canode, son of M. Jane (Loughley) Canode-Scheatzle and Carson Bennett Canode, Jr., passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2021 at the age of 71. Mike grew up in Carey, Ohio and was a 1968 graduate of Carey High School. He attended Bowling Green State University, then obtained his JD from Ohio State University before proudly serving his country in the Marine Corp where he attained the rank of major as a JAG attorney, which took his family to multiple U.S. locations and Okinawa, Japan. After an honorable discharge, he became a private practice attorney for the remainder of his professional career. Mike spent the bulk of his time in the Springfield, VA / Washington D.C. area, before settling in Hagerstown, Maryland with his wife of 20 years, Kathie (Rosenthal) Moylan-Canode. Mike was an avid movie fan, and a voracious reader of National Geographic and scientific & historical literature. He valued his family, education, gourmet cooking, cat rescue, tropical fish, Ohio State football and his beloved and belabored Cleveland Browns. Known for his small-town homilies and gentle humor, he loved to learn and had an upstanding character. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger sister, Beverly Ann Canode. Surviving are his wife, Kathie; his older sister, Sue Canode-Ackerman, Carey, OH; a son Bob (Courtenay) Canode, North Hollywood, CA; daughter Meredith (Bryan) Jackson, grandson Aidan, Erie, CO, their mother Donna; stepdaughter Kara MacLean, grandchildren Alec and Lucy, Frederick, MD; stepdaughter Jen (Rob) Meier, grandchildren Evan, Sophie, and Emma Kate, West Point, VA; nephew Charlie (Paula) Ackerman, Plainfield, IL; along with additional beloved family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Washington County Humane Society in Hagerstown, MD. The family will be in touch with loved ones about a celebration of life event for Mike to be held in Spring of 2022.
