Michael (Mike) Leslie Bailey, also fondly known as "GOOSE" passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. He was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease) in October of 2019. Mike is survived by his wife Nancy Brooks Bailey, his children Kimberli Brooke Bailey and Blake Judson Bailey, and his two grandsons Christopher Bailey and Nathan Allen Waid .
Mike was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 20, 1953. His family then moved to Oakdale, Georgia and then to Smyrna, Georgia where he lived, loved and enjoyed the rest of his life. He was a 1971 graduate of Campbell High School and then attended Georgia State University. He met Nancy Brooks and they married in 1975. Mike loved and adored his family.
Mike's career included architectural design, aeronautical design and engineering, and ended in electrical engineering and design. His early work began at John J. Hart and Lockwood Greene Engineers Inc. in Atlanta. He then went on to work at Lockheed Martin Corporation in Marietta, Georgia and furthered his career as a business owner of CADS (Compugraph Associates and Design Services) from 1989-2000. Mike continued his engineering career and retired from Newcomb and Boyd Consulting Engineers in Atlanta, Georgia in December 2019.
Mike loved anything that flew and something that distinguished him from most people is that Mike completed flight training to include his solo flight in a single engine Airplane at the age of 16. He loved the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds and never missed an opportunity to see them fly. Mike's other life passions and hobbies were playing, collecting and restoring vintage Drums, along with designing, building, flying, and collecting model airplanes, as well as model airplane magazines.
Mike touched the lives of so many. He never met a stranger and welcomed anyone into his life with open arms and the best bear hugs. Mike was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather. Grandaddy Mike will be truly missed but not forgotten.
Visitation with family will be Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 10:00 - 11:45 am at
Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at 12:00 noon.
