Micah James Brue, 19, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, August 10 after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Micah was born on July 19, 2002 in Lexington, KY. He is the son of Jill Brue and the late Shane Brue.
Micah was an unexpected blessing. He was born 15 months after his twin brothers, and he thought he was a triplet in his younger years. Keeping up with his brothers was his priority. Micah was passionate about his interests, including music and learning. He was innately curious and had a wealth of trivia knowledge. He excelled at academics and loved playing the piano. He enjoyed playing games with his family and friends, reading, driving to Sonic for a vanilla coke, and discussing politics, history, and science.
Micah enjoyed five years with the Amarillo Boy Choir. He played piano for the youth praise band at church as well as singing in the youth choir. Micah enjoyed the WTAMU band camp each summer and was a percussionist in the Randall High School band. He loved classical piano and planned to continue his education in music, hoping to eventually teach music and music theory on the college level.
Micah loved learning. He participated in academic UIL events, science bowl, and the citizen bee, and he took as many advanced classes as he could. He worked hard to keep up his studies after being diagnosed with leukemia, and was recognized as Salutatorian of his 2021 graduation class at Randall High School. Micah was also honored in high school with many awards, including academic honors, outstanding Sophomore student, Who's Who, Junior class favorite, Homecoming Court, and Honor camper at band camp.
Micah will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His enthusiasm for learning, his intelligence and wit, and his passion for life will always be remembered. He is survived by his mother, Dr. Jill Brue, his siblings, Benjamin, Jacob, Ryan, and Megan, of Amarillo, his grandparents Dr. Jim and LuAnn Smith of Amarillo, his aunts and uncles, Shawn and Krystal Brue of Cache, OK, Scott and Laura Smith of Amarillo, TX, and Kevin and Juli Peak of Lynchburg, VA, and his cousins Abby, Kaylee, and Matthew Brue, Cameron, Connor, and Creighton Smith, and Adeline and Maisie Peak.
Micah was preceded in death by his father, the Rev. Dr. Shane Brue.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, August 14 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 4600 S. Western Street in Amarillo. An online guestbook can be located at www.boxwellbrothers.com.
Micah's family has started a permanent scholarship fund to provide yearly financial assistance to young men and women from the Amarillo and Canyon area who attend college to earn a degree in music. Interest earned from the endowed funds will be awarded annually.
In lieu of flowers, you are invited to join with them in providing scholarships to deserving students by making donations to the Micah Brue Memorial Music Scholarship Fund at any of the Happy State Bank locations.
