Merlyn Gale Knepp age 89 of Loudon, Tennessee passed away peacefully September 11, 2024. Merlyn was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania. She knew early in her childhood she wanted to be a nurse. After graduating from Clearfield High School in 1950, she attended Reading School of Nursing where she became a registered nurse in 1953. Merlyn married her high school sweetheart Gerald "Jerry" on November 23, 1957. Beginning in 1963, Merlyn set her career aside to raise her two children. During this time her hobbies included sewing, knitting, and crocheting, which were all passions until her final days. Together, Merlyn and Jerry were members of the Lions Club at Tellico Village. They volunteered at the Good Neighbor shop and fostered close to one hundred puppies for the Monroe County Animal Shelter. They spent sixty- five wonderful years together before Jerry passed in 2022.
Merlyn is survived by her two children, Charles "Chip" Knepp and his wife, Corinne of Louisville, Kentucky, and Jill Broer and her husband, Dirk of Silver Spring, Maryland; grandchildren, Griffin, Torie, Isabelle, Samie, and Drake. She is also survived by four siblings Barbara Lewis of St. Mary's, Pennsylvania Jackie Anderson of Frenchville, Pennsylvania, John Hipps of Mifflinville, Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Merlyn was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, John Edward and Lorena (Hallock) Hipps. Two brothers Richard and William Hipps and two sisters Susan Lynn Hipps and Janice Rowles.
An inurnment will be held 3 PM Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the columbarium at the Tellico Village Community Church with Pastor Hannah Perry officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Merlyn may be made to the Monroe County Animal Shelter.
