White River Jct., VT - Merlin "Russ" Leon Bean Jr., 70, died peacefully Thursday morning, Feb. 20, at his home with his wife by his side. Merlin was born July 17, 1949 in Middlesex, VT the son of Merlin L. and Mary (Markowski)Bean. He attended school in Vermont before entering the service. Merlin was extremely proud to serve with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He worked for Rock of Ages Granite Company in the quarries in Barre, VT and then later for Cooley Asphalt Company. He lived most of his life in Barre, VT until he and his wife moved to White River Jct., VT to be nearer to the Veteran's Administration Hospital. Merlin's service connected illness forced him to give up many of his favorite hobbies which included day long rides on his Harley, fishing trips with his buddies, stock car racing, dirt track racing at area tracks and he loved to play pool with his buddies at the local club. Merlin loved his wife, children, family and friends. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, three daughters, Jennifer, Cher, and Angel. He is also survived by four grandchildren, one brother, four sisters and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service with full military honors will be held later in the springtime at the Vermont Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT.
