Meredith Luther 1927-2021
Meredith Eugene Luther, 93, of The Villages, Florida passed away on March 20, 2021 after saying goodbye to a life filled with devoted family and friends. He was born September 10, 1927 to parents Martin Luther and Dorothy Marie (King) Luther in Shelbyville, Indiana. Meredith graduated from Shelbyville High School, Shelbyville, Indiana in 1945. He is a Veteran of World War II, serving as PHOM/3C Combat Aircrew U.S. Navy and recognized in The Road To Victory, The National WWII Museum, New Orleans. He attended the University of Cincinnati and Butler University, receiving his BA engineering degree, Butler in 1953. He was a fraternity member of Phi Delta Theta, Butler Chapter. He married Charlotte Joy Wagoner in 1952, celebrating 68 years together. Meredith's family members and close loved ones are: son, Britton L. Luther (Mellanie Luther), son, Bradley D. Luther (Kerry Ferguson), grandson, Jeremy B. Luther (Diana Luther) great-granddaughter, Natalie Luther, and granddaughter, Laura Luther Welch (Nathan Welch). He is predeceased by parents Martin and Dorothy Luther.
Meredith worked as Chief Process Engineer for International Harvester, Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 1984 after 40 years. He was an avid golfer moving to Florida after retiring, affectionately nicknamed "Woody" after the famous Hoosier actor, Woody Harrelson. He was a life-long Butler Bulldogs fan and sports enthusiast.
Meredith was a member of the Murat Shriners, Scottish Rite and The Masons, Shelby Lodge #28 F & A.M. He enjoyed volunteering at the local Veterans Association, Spruce Creek, Summerfield, Florida.
Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana. Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on a future date to be announced. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Meredith's favorite charity, Shriner's Hospital for Children.
