Sister Mercedes Kucera, O P, died Nov. 26, 2021 at St. Dominic Villa, Hazel Green, Wis. She was born to Joseph and Esther (Seery) Kucera Nov. 24, 1935, in Chicago. She was the youngest of eight children. She is survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and her Dominican Sisters. She taught elementary education from 1958 to 1981 in Wisconsin, Illinois, South Dakota and Wyoming. Sister Mercedes had a gentle heart . She was asked then to serve in pastoral care and pastoral ministry; and as a receptionist, switchboard operator, driver, secretary, tutor and Sinsinawa mail room volunteer. These varied works were done in Iowa, Illinois, Florida, and Wisconsin.
Sister Mercedes moved to the Villa in 2014. Last week she heard one more call. "Come home to me, Mercedes." She is with the living God. Services will be held at Sinsinawa Dec. 2-3. Miller Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
