At the age of seventeen he left Tupelo and moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky to attend the Bowling Green College of Commerce. Wilson and Associates in Lexington, Kentucky as well as Equine Adjusters, Inc. For many years, he was also involved in politics and government during the administrations of both Governor John Y. He spent his winters in New Port Richey, Florida. Besides gardening, Melvin enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his friends in both Florida and Kentucky.
His survivors include his wife, Dr. Pamela Graber, two sons Melvin Wilson Jr. (and wife, Rachelle) and Mark Wilson, and daughter Maggie Wilson.
