Melissa A, Winchell (Missy), age 69 of Janesville passed away on November 3rd, 2021 at Mercy Hospital following a brief battle with small cell lung cancer. She was born in Janesville on February 22, 1952 to Robert and Grace (Fitzgerald) Collins, She graduated from Craig High School, Class of 1971. She married Steve Winchell in October of 1973.
Missy spent many years as a bartender in Janesville. This included the Alibi Inn, 708 Club, Rockport Inn, Blarney Stone and lastly at Brigg's White Oak, retiring in 2016. She worked for John Briggs for over 30 years in the liquor store, video store, flag store and bar and restaurant, She was "famous for her chicken and dumplings". Missy enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, sewing, cooking, reading and going to rummage sales. She loved the Packers and enjoyed making game day food.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Winchell and son Alan Mursa Jr. Siblings: Kathy (Jim) Thalke, Jeff (Diana) Collins, Barbara (Leroy) Collins, and Mary (Brad) Weins, along with many other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Margaurite and her uncle Wayne and brother Scott.
The famiily would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Mercy Hospital for all of their care. This including the ICU staff and Radiology/Oncology staff, Thank you also to Grace Funeral Home in Albany. The biggest thank you of all goes to John Briggs and his staff and patrons for everything they have done over the years. You guys were her "family" too.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday November 20th at Briggs White Oak at 429 N, Parker Dr, from 1-4pm. A luncheon will be served.
