Melinda Ann Dahlstrom, 71, died with her husband and two of her sons by her side on January 20, 2024 at the Yuma Regional Medical Center in Yuma, AZ. She was born on December 22, 1952 in San Francisco, CA, the daughter of the late Frank and Dorothy (Adams) Dahlstrom.
Melinda grew up in Pacifica, CA but for the last 40 years, Epping, NH was her home and where she raised her family. She worked for many years as a barber at "Off the Top" in Manchester, NH, making long lasting connections with her clients, many of whom continued to seek her out even after her retirement. Melinda was known to cut hair anywhere she could use her clippers; her driveway, garage, and deck. Some clients would even wait months, if she was away, just to get their hair cut by her. In addition to her work as a barber, Melinda worked collecting data and statistical information for various survey companies including the US Census Bureau. She was organized and persistent, and for a time she put her skills to work in Washington D.C., her only regret being that it took her away from her family.
A very active person, Melinda enjoyed aerobics and walked 4 miles every day, rain or shine. Melinda loved to travel. She enjoyed camping and taking cross country road trips, completing at least 10 of these trips over the years. She enjoyed exploring different parts of the United States with her husband and loved to share pictures of her visits with her family. Melinda was also an avid reader who enjoyed mystery and thriller novels. She was a kind and caring person who was a great listener and always remembered a name. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, Melinda was predeceased by her brother Marshall Dahlstrom; and is survived by her husband with whom she resided for over 40 years, John S. Horne Sr. of Epping, NH; 5 children, Candi LaFleur and her husband Daniel of Lee, NH, Jesse D. Lannoo of Epping, NH, John S. Horne Jr. and his wife Amanda of Epping, NH, Frederick J. Horne and his wife Zo? of Andover, MA, and Trevor K. Horne of Manchester, NH. Melinda is also survived by her sister Michelle White of Manchester, NH, her brother Marc Dahlstrom of Sacramento, CA, her grandchildren Jada, Jaxon, Mila and Luna, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on February 16, 2024 from 4-6 PM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., Epping, NH. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 6 PM at the funeral home.
