Meghan Kubo Eldredge August 14, 1977 - May 17, 2022 Merced, California - Meghan Allison Kubo Eldredge, 44, died May 17 at UC Davis Medical Center following an aggressive battle with breast cancer. She spent her final moments with her husband, brother and mom at her side. A Merced native, Meghan attended Atwater schools, graduating from Atwater High School in 1995. She played competitive soccer for 13 years, starting at the age of 6 and ending at Merced College. Meghan earned her associate's degree from Merced College before transferring to CSU Stanislaus, where she earned her bachelor's degree in English in 1999. She also completed her teaching credential, master's degree and administrative credential from Stan State. Meghan spent almost 20 years working for the Merced City School District, both in the classroom and as a teacher on special assignment, but teaching middle school is what she loved best. She taught at Tenaya, Rivera and Hoover middle schools, Peterson Elementary School, and spent time as a clinician at Cruickshank Middle School. Meghan loved language, was fluent in French and traveled around the world with the Fulbright Scholars and National Educators Association — visiting France, China, Japan and New Zealand. An outdoors enthusiast, Meghan spent as much time as she could outside, and Yosemite National Park held a special place in her heart. Above all else, though, Meghan valued family most. Fiercely strong-willed, she fought hard every day for the past eight months just to have more time with Jeremy, her husband of 16 years, and their sons, Jack and Tucker. She was proud of how she was raised, the boys she was raising and considered her students an extension of her family. As one colleague said, she was a warrior when she had to be, yet kind and loving beyond measure. Meghan was preceded in death by her loving father, James Kubo, in 2005. Aside from her husband and sons, she leaves behind her mother, Kathleen Kubo, brother, Brian Kubo (Tonya), all of Merced; her grandmother, Toshiko Kubo of Cortez; her father- and mother-in-law, Vernon and Janet Eldredge of Cedar City, Utah; sister-in-law, Kendra Wycoff (Justin) of Peoh, Utah; five nieces; one nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, at Vista Ranch and Cellars on Highway 140 in Merced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Meghan's memory sent to UC Davis Health Comprehensive Cancer Center, https://give.ucdavis.edu/Donate/YourGift/CC48317 (https://give.ucdavis.edu/Donate/YourGift/CC48317).
