Max Dean Gould, lifelong resident of Marion passed away at home on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was 92.
Max was born on April 18, 1932, in Marion, to Atlee and Nina (Kipp) Gould. He was a graduate of Marion High School before proudly enlisting to serve as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Max was extremely hard working and never one to sit idle. A proud member of the Operating Engineers Local Union 324 for over 60 years, he was an expert crane operator who mentored young operators well into his 80s. Always the tinkerer, Max spent his retirement woodworking, hunting, and watching wildlife from the home he built himself, just down the road from where he and his siblings were raised. Full of life until the end, Max would want those who love him to know he passed with his work boots on.
Max will be remembered as a reserved, funny, kind, independent man who loved to reminisce about raising hell with his brothers, look through photos from his favorite construction jobs, and show off his gun collection and trophy taxidermy from deer or turkey seasons.
Max is survived by his children, Michael, Beth Anne, Amber, Amanda, and Ashley; grandchildren Brandon, Marlaina, and Ava; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Denise; his parents; and seven siblings, Ray, Carl, Donald, Marie, Glenn, Olin, Leo.
Per his wishes cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest, with a graveside service, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Marion at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024, followed by a luncheon at the family home.
