Mavis S Keys, age 87, of Ft. Pierce, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, January 20, 2024.
Mavis was born March 30, 1936 in Caribou, Maine to Charles A. and Violet B. Shepard.
Mavis was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Orin Keys, parents Charles and Violet Shepard, a brother, Roland Shepard and a sister, Regina Stiller.
Mavis is survived by her children, Richard (Cynthia) Smith of Port St. Lucie, FL, Mitchell (Denise D.) Smith of Tampa, FL, Denise (Ron C.) Dinocola of Ft. Pierce, FL, and step-children Randall (Caryl) Keys of Rock Falls, WI, Richard (Anita K.) Keys of Lake City, MN, Ron (Heidi) Keys of Mondovi, WI, as well as a brother, Charles M. Shepard of Caryville, FL and a sister, Phyllis Laino of Boynton Beach, FL.
Mavis enjoyed the role of being a grandparent to all 41 of her grand and great grandchildren.
Friends meant the world to her and she had many of them from all across the USA.
Mavis was passionate about her jobs. After managing Maryland Fried Chicken in Ft Pierce, she worked for and retired as an operator from BellSouth Telecommunications on October 15, 1995.
Mavis was an active member of Community United Methodist Church in Ft. Pierce, FL where she was a member of the 55+ club and the Women's Group.
Everyone who knew Mavis, knew how much she loved helping others. She was a member of the Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO, CLC, was a volunteer teacher with the Adult Learn to Read Program in St. Lucie County and a volunteer with Hospice of The Treasure Coast.
Mavis will always be remembered for her gentle, kind, loving soul and the way that she always offered to help anyone. We'll always imagine hearing her say "What will be, will be" one more time. We couldn't have asked for a better person and will miss Mavis every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 6026 North US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6026 North US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946.
