Mauricio Enrique Ornelas, age 50, of Willmar, MN, died Wednesday, June 30, at Carris Health Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Mauricio Enrique Ornelas was born December 13, 1970, in Houston, TX, to Enrique, Jr. and Elena (Sanchez) Ornelas. He grew up in Harlingen/San Benito, TX area and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1990. Mauricio worked for the family business, La Especial Bakery, in San Benito. On November 29, 1997, he married Mayra Trevi?o in Harlingen, TX. They made their home in Weslaco, TX until January 2009, when they moved to Willmar, MN. Mauricio attended the electrician program at Ridgewater College in Willmar. He worked for Regal Electric for eight years before becoming a service technician at Dooley's Petroleum.
Mauricio was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Willmar. He was a leader for Royal Rangers both at Mid Valley Assembly of God in Weslaco and in Willmar. His passions were fishing, landscaping, collecting sports cards, 1980s rock music, Star Wars, and watching sports, especially the Houston Astros. He continued his talent in the Willmar area baking cakes and pastries for local residents. Mauricio will be remembered for his contagious laugh and wonderful sense of humor, especially his impersonations of Scooby-Doo, Elmo, and Jim Carey characters.
He is survived by his wife: Mayra Ornelas; three children: Miranda Ornelas, Marcus Ornelas, and Mikayla Ornelas; his father: Enrique Ornelas; a sister: Martha Ornelas; and three brothers: Martin (Rose) Ornelas, Miguel (Mary) Ornelas, and Moses Ornelas. Also surviving are his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Oscar and Angie Trevi?o; a brother-in-law: Gabriel (Tamara) Trevi?o; two sisters-in-law: Mireya (Jose) ?lvarez and Maricel Trevi?o; several nieces and nephews; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother: Elena Ornelas; and his grandparents.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 7, at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2021, beginning with a visitation at 10 a.m. at Assembly of God Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
