Maurice Louis Whitney, 93, of Williamsport, MD, passed away, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Williamsport Retirement Village. Born Thursday, November 27, 1930, in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late Louis Whitney and the late Willa (Van Vliet) Whitney. Maurice was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor's degree from Syracuse University. He was employed as a chemist with IBM in Boulder, CO and was also a driver for Bis-Man Transit in Bismarck, ND. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church and Emmanuel United Methodist Church, both in Hagerstown. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nancy L. Whitney; step children, Karin T. Christensen (John Karrer), Jay Christensen (Susan), and Michael Christensen (Alona); step grandchildren, Jerimy Christensen, Amanda Siembida, Jessica Papa, PJ Christensen, Eric Christensen, Carley Christensen, Lindsey Garcia, Samuel Christensen, and Michael Christensen; and numerous step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Art Whitney; and step son, Patrick Christensen. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 2:30 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, with the Rev. Randall S. Reid officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
