Maurice John "Moe" Ogier, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. He was a loving husband, caring father, proud "Grandpa Moe," and ever-hopeful Tulane fan. Maurice was born in New Orleans on October 19, 1944. He graduated from Redemptorist High School before attending Southeastern Louisiana University where he played football for two seasons. Maurice left SLU in 1965 to play for the Minnesota Twins and California Angels baseball organizations. Maurice also served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserves between 1965 and 1971. After baseball, Moe had three wonderful children from his first marriage: Kristin, Blaine, and Steven. During this time Moe also began his career at Delta Air Lines, a company that he served loyally for 23 years, retiring in 2001. He was inducted into The Diamond Club of New Orleans Baseball Hall of Fame on November 13, 2002. In 1992, Maurice married Elaine Conners, his doting wife whom he loved endlessly for 30 years. Moe and Elaine enjoyed each other's company and companionship, gardening, reading, and sharing the best of themselves with family and friends. Even during chemo treatment, Moe would tend to his yard, sometimes wielding clippers from a lawn chair. He lived a quiet and comfortable life with the occasional thrill of a Tulane win or a mid-week trip to the Mississippi coast. In retirement, Maurice was a dedicated grandfather who, together with Elaine, attended the school and athletic events of his nine grandchildren. Maurice was a devout Catholic, who attended mass weekly at St. Philip Neri and St. Ann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise W. Ogier and Maurice J. Ogier, Sr. and sister, Susan Butler. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Conners Ogier, and his three children, Kristin Stiegler (Kyle), Blaine Hill (Michael), and Steven Ogier (April). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caitlyn Reisgen, Jake Stiegler, Triston Ogier (Lillian), Hayden Ogier, Cooper Hill, Colin Hill, Rowan Hill, Laura Kernion, and Kylie Ogier. He is further survived by two siblings, Louis Ogier (Linda), and Raymond Ogier (Laura) along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family offers its sincerest gratitude to everyone who helped with his care and treatment, especially the wonderful team at the Gayle & Tom Benson Cancer Center, especially, Dr. Staton, Dr. Alberti, and the Oncology chemo nurses, and the Compassus Hospice Team. Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Sons, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA. Visitation will begin at 10:15 a.m. and continue until Mass. Condolences may be expressed at www.schoenfh.com (http://www.schoenfh.com). Flowers are welcome as are donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his name.
