Maurice "Moe" Kalaf, 86, of Lancaster, South Carolina passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Friday July 29, 2022. Moe was born in Meta, Missouri on January 18, 1936, as one of ten children to the late George and Sadie (Shamaly) Kalaf. He moved to Port Huron, Michigan at the age of 10. Moe worked several jobs in Port Huron and eventually owned and operated Northgate Shell for many years. He married Rita Weber on June 10, 1961, and served in the National Guard, US Army, and US Army Reserves. In 1977, he moved to Forestville, Michigan where he and his wife owned and operated Kalaf's Korner General Store.
Moe loved being with his family and enjoyed joking around with everyone. Some of the many things he liked to do was riding snowmobiles, playing pool and cards, golfing, bowling, and being with good friends.
He is survived by his wife, Rita; his children, Calvin (Richard) of Lancaster, SC and Randy (Beth) of Waxhaw, NC and their adult children, Sara and Brice. He is also survived by his siblings: John Kalaf of Port Huron, MI, Mary Sams of Lexington, MI, Alice Fincher of Clinton Township, MI, Lorraine Kloeppel of Kansas City, MO, George (Jan) Kalaf of Irvine, CA, and Gloria Weston of Glendale, AZ, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Martha Kalaf and Julie Shamaly, and one brother, Joseph Kalaf.
A celebration of life event will occur in Port Huron, Michigan at a later date with his final resting place to be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please honor Moe with a memorial donation to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (www.macular.org) or the American Kidney Foundation (www.kidneyfund.org).
