Maurice L. Gossert, Jr., 87, formerly of Mercersburg, PA, died August 20, 2021 at The Village at Luther Ridge, Chambersburg, PA.
Born December 24, 1933 in Waynesboro, PA, he was a son of the late Maurice L., Sr. and Zelda (Helman) Gossert.
Maurice graduated from Quincy High School, Quincy, PA in 1952. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from 1954 to 1957, during the Korean War. From 1957 to 1960 he attended Hagerstown Junior College and received an associate degree in engineering. He also attended the University of Maryland. Maurice was a partner for 40 years with Nassaux-Hemsley, Inc., Chambersburg. He was project manager for various municipalities in Pennsylvania. Maurice retired in 2009.
Maurice was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Mission Catholic Church, Mercersburg, where he served as a Eucharistic minister for 30 years and was a Parish Council member. He was a life member of Mercersburg Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Fellow recipient. Life member of VFW and American Legion #517, Mercersburg. Zoning and Hearing Board member of the Boro of Mercersburg for 40 years. Maurice enjoyed golf, camping, boating, and family activities.
Surviving family include his wife, Judith C. (Campbell) Gossert, whom he married August 25, 1962. Three children, Eve G. and husband, William Thorr, York, PA, Maurice L. "Marty" and wife, Trudy Gossert, III, Chamberburg, Michael H. and wife Adrienne Gossert, Mechanicsburg, PA. Five grandchildren, Jared L. Gossert, Hannah G. Thorr, Christopher L. Gossert, Lauren C. Gossert, and Jon Matthew Gossert. A sister, Gloria Pentz, Waynesboro. Maurice was prededed in death by a sister, Frances Hoover and a brother, Harold Gossert.
Viewing 7 to 9 PM Wednesday August 25th, in Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM August 26, 2021 in St. Luke Catholic Church, 115 Overhill Drive, Mercersburg, with Father Allan Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
