Heartfelt gratitude to all those that loved and supported Matt.
Matt was the last child born into the Oster family in 1962. He cherished his childhood and all the mayhem he caused growing up with his parents and five siblings at 40 Edgemere Drive. Matt’s family was active in the Holy Cross Community where he attended school through 8 grade and later graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School. Matt went on to follow the family business as a dental technician with his brother Bob. He later decided to pursue other avenues: painter with Casey Interiors, bartender at Webster Golf Club and cook at the University of Rochester.
Living on the lake, Matt was in his element swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, blowing up rockets and building bonfires. Matt relished his time cooking with family and friends for holidays, birthdays, dinners and impromptu gatherings. He especially enjoyed sharing music for his guests that included a wide array of musical genres; which was questionably appreciated by others. Matt’s passions and talents were evident in his unique ability to recite song lyrics and play music by ear. He could strum a tune on the guitar and strike the keys on the piano to play any song he heard. However, jamming with the Oster family was by far his favorite way to play music.
Those who were fortunate to know Matt surely enjoyed having thoughtful conversations with him which were peppered with wit and humor. He had a way of making people feel special by asking specific questions just about them. He was always so attentive, kind and had a knack for remembering even the smallest details anyone shared. His personal conversations created those special bonds he had with so many people.
Matt was also a motorhead and classic car enthusiast. He had several unique vehicles throughout his life, his favorites being those that barely fit in a garage. Despite his vision loss, Matt recently purchased a 1977 Lincoln Continental Mark V and was so looking forward to riding around and showing off his classic style.
Matt met Donna in 1987 which began their 35 years together. They lived in 2 homes that they spent time remodeling and making their own to entertain and host holidays and parties. They enjoyed traveling, cooking, entertaining, boating, music and spending time with their family and friends. Though Matt claimed he never wanted or liked cats, he cared for and became attached to each one that Donna discreetly brought home.
Matt was a unique presence in this world and will be sorely missed. His generosity and selflessness were like no other. He was so giving and never wanted to burden anyone. Please remember Matty by sharing a story, listening to offbeat music, casting some bait, jumping the waves, grilling up some meat or taking a ride in your favorite car with the windows down. Smile when you think of him and live your life to the fullest!
