Lillie included in letters to Maryllin that the trip to the hospital that cold morning gave the impression of a fairyland and was a sight to behold. Maryllin grew up in Morrison, Illinois and was the sixth of eight children in the family. She always held her education with the utmost of importance. Her education stemmed not only from traditional schooling, but also from her entrance into the Girl Scouts where, in the midst of WWII, she became a nurse's aide, thus one of her careers and callings began. In 1948 Maryllin graduated from high school and took the nursing entrance exam. In 1951 she graduated with her Nurses degree and passed the Indiana State Board Exams for nursing, officially making her a Registered Nurse. Maryllin entered the Air Force soon after where she received a second lieutenant ranking and was transferred to Fort Worth, Texas. It was there, she met her husband Ernest "Bo" Newton. Their relationship, due to military rules, was kept secret until Bo was honorably discharged. Shortly after Bo's discharge, Maryllin with a First Lieutenant ranking was also honorably discharged from the military. They were married 3rd May 1953 in Fort Worth, Texas. Not being one to sit idle, she served a seven-year commission with the Air Force Reserve Nurse Corp with the rank of Captain. In this time Maryllin gave birth to three boys, Douglas J Newton, Alan L Newton, and James M Newton. As the boys grew up Maryllin knew that her education must follow the times so she went back to school for a degree in education where she would graduate from Northern Texas State College with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master's in Educational Supervision. She was an avid learner and never missed an opportunity to teach and learn. She was a charter member of the local Catholic Church, Holy Family of Nazareth in Irving, Texas. Through the years her children also had children of their own and she was known as "Grams" to the grandchildren. In her retirement Maryllin loved to sing in the 50+choir The Silvertones, attend her grandchildren's functions, deep dive into genealogy, and she loved to quilt and sew. She joined the Red Hatters Organization and, with that organization traveled, scrapbooked, gave back to the community, and made many friends. She loved to make very special outfits to wear to those gatherings and it gave her such joy to be part of it. Her love of education and helping others was evident in all her activities, she simply wanted the best for those around her.
