Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Wilson, 93, of Duncannon, passed away Wednesday October 30, 2019 at Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
Born November 19, 1925, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Everet and Jennie (Engstrom) Erikson. In 1959, she was united in marriage with William Jack Wilson; with whom she spent a devoted union of 53 years prior to his passing on November 25, 2012.
Betty and Jack first moved their family to Perry County in 1964 - raising their children on a farm on Delville Road. A humble and giving person, Betty received tremendous satisfaction by performing random acts of kindness. She assembled care packages for the benefit of children in need - often as many as a hundred each year. Betty was an avid writer - routinely keeping in contact with as many as 200 people across the country and overseas. She also delighted in writing poetry and baking pies - using her grandmother's crust recipe - for her family as well as community fundraising events. Anyone who knew Betty, knows she loved playing card and board games around the dining room table. She also enjoyed frequent trips to the Dollar store. Her favorite past time was telling jokes to anyone and everyone who would listen! For many years, Betty had been a member of the former Asbury United Methodist Church in Duncannon and was currently a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. She had also been an active member and officer of the Shermanata Grange #1796.
Betty is survived by her children, Raymond (Billie Jean) Wilson, Sharon (Lester "Skip") Straub, James Wilson and Kevin Wilson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Douglas Wilson, Jonathan (Robin) Wilson, Vanessa (Bryan) Chrisemer and Ryan Straub, and great grandchildren, Nathaniel Tyler Wilson, Leah Fay Wilson, Jacob Aaron Wilson and Liam Daniel Chrisemer. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Erik L. Erikson, Carl G. Erikson and John D. Erikson, and sister, Martha E. Liggett.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday November 8, 2019 at the Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 North High Street, Duncannon, with Pastor George Spangler, officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Section of Union Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., prior to the service.
