Mary Virginia (Harris) Morriss died in Duncanville, TX on January 11, 2022. She was born on May 7, 1932 to Eva Maurine (Harrell) Harris and Thomas Allison Harris Jr., in Celeste, Texas. She attended Celeste Elementary and Celeste High School, where she graduated valedictorian in 1949.
In 1952 she graduated from TWU with a B.S. degree in Home Economics Education. Then she taught Home Economics in Caddo Mills High School and Duncanville High School before receiving her Masters from UNT. She taught English at L.V. Stockard Junior High and Justin F. Kimball High in Dallas. She did post graduate work at UNT and SMU. She taught ten years at Mountain View College as an adjunct instructor of English.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Duncanville. Mary had served on the administration board and council of ministries. She taught fifth grade Sunday school, served as coordinator of children ministries and was pianist for the cup and saucer Sunday school class. She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Where she served on the building committee and the board of trustees. She also taught senior high Sunday school and had been a member of United Methodist Women for more than 60 years. She was recognized as a 50 plus year member of Delta Kappa Gamma international honor society for 16 years women educators. She had been president of Kappa Upsilon chapter. She had also served as a member and officer of Book Browsers Review Club.
Preceded in death by her husband, Edd Morriss; Bothers, Thomas B. Harris, Richard A. Harris and Mack Harris; Sister, Lousie Brettschnider and dear friend Charles Willis.
Survivors include Daughter, Martha Annette Lopez (Robert); granddaughters, Lacey Dowlearn (Danny) and Lauren Pyeatt; great granddaughters, Annie and Jane Dowlearn; sister-in-law, Priscilla Harris, Nieces, Midge Wood (Ron), Barbara Addison (Billy), Sheila Greber (Mark), Emily Morgan (Tony); Nephews, David Harris (Carolyn), Rick Harris (Meriam), Brad Brettschneider (Lisa), Greg Harris (Mavis) and Eric Harris (Leah).
Funeral service will be at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, Duncanville, TX. Visitation will be held from 1pm- 2pm, service at 2pm on Friday, January 21, 2022. The family thanks Mary faithful caregiver's Kimmie Aguilar, Colleen Cook and Susan Bryant.
