Mary Terese Angela Verhelle, 93 of Naples, FL passed away at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
Angela Verhelle was born in Parkhill, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada on October 11, 1928, to Dougold McCormick and Margaret (Jordan) McCormick. Angela was the youngest of eight (surviving) children.
Angela grew-up with her six sisters and one brother on a farm near Parkhill, outside of London, Ontario. After completing nursing school (St. Josephs) and becoming a registered nurse, Angela moved to Detroit, MI, where she worked in the David Whitney Building for a pioneering eye surgeon helping to develop the procedures for cataract eye surgery.
Angela and William Henry Verhelle, Sr. were introduced to each other at Indian Village Tennis Club in Detroit; and on May 21, 1960, Angela married William Henry Verhelle, Sr. at St. Clare Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe, MI. They raised a family in the Detroit area. After having two sons, Angela returned to work as the head RN, overseeing the operating rooms at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe Park.
In the early 1980's Angela and Bill moved to Petoskey, MI, where Angela served as the head nurse in the operating and emergency rooms at Otsego Memorial Hospital in Gaylord, MI and at Reus Residence in Petoskey.
In the early 2000's Angela and Bill retired and moved to be with their sons and grandchildren in Victor, NY and eventually in Naples, FL.
Angela Verhelle was a remarkable woman and an outstanding and deeply loved mother and grandmother.
Angela is survived by her two sons, William (Cyndee) Verhelle Jr. of Naples, FL, and Joseph (Kari) Verhelle of Knoxville, TN. Angela is also survived by six grandchildren: Madeline Verhelle (20), Mitchell Verhelle (19), Bradley Verhelle (19), Nicholas Verhelle (18), William III (Trey) Verhelle (17) and Luke Verhelle (15).
Angela was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William Henry Verhelle, Sr. (2017) and by all her siblings: Mary Agnes (Ivan) Edgar (2016), Peter Joseph (Alice) McCormick (1992), Helen Elizabeth (John) McCoskey (2014), Rita Margaret (Everett Nathaniel) Bailey (2010), Mildred Lucille (Edward) Stone (2001), Margaret Veronica (John) Doyle (2012), and Mary Eleanor (Joe) Wiese (2008).
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 3:00 - 5:00 PM at Fuller Funeral Home at 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples, FL 34109. (239) 592-1611. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 4, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. William Catholic Church, 601 Seagate Dr., Naples, FL 34103-2421. (239) 261 4883. Burial will take place at Holy Childhood Cemetery in Harbor Springs, MI at a later date.
