Mary Louise Trahan of Loganville, Georgia passed away on February 21, 2021 at home with her family, succumbing to a chronic illness. Mary was born in Gadsden, AL on September 12, 1951 to Joseph Francis Trahan and his wife Louise (n?e Moore). She attended St. James Catholic School. She was best friends forever with Etowah High School chums, Janet Gray, Harriet Mehurg, and Jane Bishop. Mary obtained her Masters of Social Work from Georgia State University and founded the Phoenix Alliance for substance abuse rehabilitation in Atlanta. She was an avid decorator and gracious hostess for her husband's university gatherings. Growing up on a small farm in the foothills of Appalachia, Mary even "had a little lamb"; yet when her husband accepted a provost post and they moved to Boston, she never lost her sweet Southern accent. She was variously an efficient administrator, professional counselor, realtor, computer application consultant, civic activist, jewelry maker, belly dancing student, a compassionate neighbor with neighbors who cared (Dr. Darlene Goldstein), book club fan, and so much more! Mary was always cheerful and had a big heart, deeply loving her mother, family, and pets. Mary is predeceased by her sister Laura Trahan, and her first husband Bill Wilson. Mary is survived by her cherished husband Dr. Ahmed T. Abdelal, sister Caroline Abbey (John) of Newnan, devoted son Anthony Shane Wilson of Loganville (daughter-in-law Marie), grandson Caleb Wilson, step grands Jada Sutfin (Jeremy) and Blake McDaniel (Courtney), step daughter Laila Abdelal McClay of Novato, CA and grandson Max, step son Rawi Abdelal of Wellesley, MA (Traci Battle) and grandchildren Alexander and Annabel, niece Louise Priko McCall, nephews Robert Priko and Sean Paul Aitken, several grand nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, and her beloved rescued Siberian Husky, Lucky. A Zoom memorial will be held later to celebrate her life. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association or charity of your choice.
