Mary Audrey (Rutledge) Strutt of Piketon, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Pavilion of Piketon. Mary was the daughter of the late Charles A. Rutledge and Rosa (Simones) Rutledge. She was born in Hanging Rock, Ohio on April 13, 1926. In the early 1930's the Rutledge family moved to Pike County where Mary started school in a one room school in Bethel.
She married Preston Strutt on August 8, 1944 in Atlanta, Georgia where he was stationed during WWII. He died in June of 2007.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Benny) Mines of Piketon, Ohio and Karen (Fred) Zimmer of Baker City, Oregon. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael (Robin) Mines, Steve (Erica) Mines, Patricia (John) Shukle, Mark (Jacquie) Zimmer, Kelly (Kris) Jensen, and Teresa (Dan) McQuisten and elevan great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Marie Thompson, brothers, Charles, Hugh and Joe, and a niece, Gloria Wilson. She is also survived by sister-in-law Carolyn Rutledge, nephews George and Norval Derenburger, and a niece Janet Fogarty.
Mary worked a number of years as a secretary at Pike Lake State Park and the remainder of her working years were as a billing clerk for Pike County Hospital system. She was dedicated to giving her very best effort to those for whom she worked.
Mary as many people of her generation, was proud to have finished high school. She always enjoyed attending the Piketon High School Alumni banquet and visiting with her old acquaintances. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to the Piketon High School Alumni Scholarship Fund, PO Box 660, Piketon, Ohio 45661.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Howe Wheeler Boyer Funeral Home, Piketon, Ohio with Pastor Bud Brabson officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, Piketon, Ohio.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 until the service on Tuesday.
