Brattleboro- Mary Agnes Ryan, a former resident of Clark Avenue and longtime resident of Brattleboro, died Wednesday morning, February 17, 2021 at the Thompson House on Maple Street. She was 100 years old.
Ms. Ryan was born in Springfield, MA on November 8, 1920, the daughter of Thomas J. and Agnes (Garrity) Ryan.
Raised and educated in Brattleboro, she attended Saint Michael's Parochial School and was a graduate of Saint Michael's High School, Class of 1939. She went on to attend Trinity College in Burlington, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Ms. Ryan had been employed as a proof reader at the former American Stratford where she retired from in 1982 following 17 years of faithful service with the company. She had also worked in the payroll department at the former American Optical Company and previously had been employed at the former BookPress and John Stone Typesetting, Publishers all of Brattleboro.
A devout Catholic, Mary was a lifelong communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church where she served as a eucharistic minister and taught religious education.
Mary was an avid reader, loved music of all kinds and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Survivors include: one nephew, Stephen Greene; two nieces, Mary Martin and Carol Surface; four grandnephews, two grandnieces, one great grandnephew and a great grandniece.
She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Ryan and a sister, Frances Greene.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated later in the springtime at a date and time to be announced with burial in the family lot in Saint Michael's Parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ms. Ryan's name may be made to Saint Michael's School, 48 Walnut St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
