Mary Marcella McIntosh Roach passed away on March 3rd, 2023. She was born September 3, 1921 in Augusta, Georgia, to Guilford Cade McIntosh and Addie Marcella Tinsley McIntosh.
Mary graduated from high school as a day student from John De La Howe in McCormick County, South Carolina and was a 1942 graduate of Winthrop College.
She was employed at Winthrop University for 26 years, retiring as staff assistant to the dean of the school of consumer science and allied professions.
She was predeceased by her husband of almost 63 years, Samuel Boyd Roach. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William Guilford McIntosh (Mary), and her sister, Louise Allen McIntosh Quick.
She was an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church for 69 years. She loved her church and the many Christian friends she made there. Mary and her husband, Boyd enjoyed many activities together; western square dancing, traveling in their motor home and joining camping clubs, walking, and especially playing cards. She also loved visiting shut-ins.
She is survived by her son, William (Bill) Boyd Roach II (Diane) of Rock Hill, SC; daughter, Mary Adeline (Adele) Roach Colston (Newton) of Brevard, NC; grandson, William Boyd Roach III (Debora) of York; granddaughter, Sheri Lynn Harris Simmons (John) of George Island, FL; four great grandchildren; Patrick Smith of Tallahassee, FL, Maggie McBryde of Monroe, SC, Addie McBryde of Charlotte NC, and Hayden Roach of York, SC.
Bass Cauthen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
