Mary Sallie Plaspohl died on January 1, 2021 in Savannah, GA. She is survived by her son, David Plaspohl, daughter-in-law, Sara Plaspohl, and granddaughter, Libby Plaspohl Hale. She was born in Swainsboro, GA on July 7, 1930. She graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1946 as class valedictorian. She then attended Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA. She moved to Savannah and married Jimmy Plaspohl in 1949. They were happily married 64 years until 2013 when Jimmy passed away. She worked for more than two decades at the Savannah Social Security Administration office with a short stint at Calvary Baptist Church. After retiring, Jimmy and Sallie lived in Linville, NC, looking across the valley to Grandfather Mountain. They moved back to Savannah after 15 years, then later moved to Rincon where they lived for more than a decade. Sallie was active in Rincon Baptist Church for many years. Sallie was the nicest person you'll ever meet. She never met an enemy and always treated everyone with respect and kindness. She never harbored a grudge, always gave the benefit of the doubt, and always had an open mind. Her death, due to COVID, was ironic because she was in many ways a product of the 1918 flu pandemic. Her parents, both widowed from their spouse's deaths due to the 1918 pandemic and already having children, married and produced three daughters including Sallie. In all, there were 9 brothers and sisters.
There will be a private family service.
