WALKERTON - Mary Alice Pavey, 87, passed away peacefully at Avow Hospice, Naples, FL on Monday, November 18, 2024. She was born on July 27, 1937, in Mishawaka to the late Aloysius and Alice (Dalke) Sokola and was a lifelong resident of the Walkerton area. On September 10, 1960, in Starke County, she was united in marriage to W. DeWayne Pavey, who passed away on June 10, 2013 after 52 years of marriage.
Mary Alice is survived by two daughters, Mashelle Pavey of Naperville, IL and Monique Pavey of Walkerton; Lisa Jolly of Plymouth who was just like a daughter; one son, Wesley Pavey of Elkhart; one grandson, Dyllon Pavey of Plymouth; one granddaughter, Madeline Maurer of Elkhart; Ryan Jolly and Abby Armold of Plymouth who were very dear to her heart; three sisters, Sandra (Fred) Schmits of Aurora, IN, Ellen Morris of Indianapolis, IN, and Jacqueline (Dean) Christy of LeCompton, KS; many nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband and parents.
She retired as a travel agent from Jo-Mar Travel in Plymouth, IN. She had worked previously for the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington D.C., the Bendix Missile Plant in Mishawaka, Her Place Clothing Store in Walkerton, and served as the Bookkeeper for DeWayne's State Farm Insurance Agency from its inception.
Mary Alice was a member of the Walkerton Business and Professional Women and received their Honorary Woman of the Year Award in 2018. She was a member of the Epsilon Chi Chapter of Tri-Kappa, the Walkerton Area Planning Commission; and was Past Matron of the Walkerton Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was an auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 189, the North Liberty VFW Post 1954, the Loyal Order of Moose Plymouth Lodge 741, the International Polka Association and the Walkerton Historical Society.
She graduated from North Liberty High School and Central Technical Institute in Kansas City, MO. Mary Alice enjoyed retirement wintering in Naples, FL at Lake San Marino. She was an avid Colts fan and particularly loved attending the sporting events of Dyllon, Ryan, and Abby. She also enjoyed traveling around the world, especially cruising, water and snow skiing, white water rafting, and gardening. She and DeWayne loved entertaining and spending time with friends.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am EST on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Walkerton. Friends may call from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm EST on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton, IN.
