Mary Ellen Painter (nee Mary Ellen Horsman), born on January 4, 1931, in Pittsburgh, passed on January 3, 2021, just before her 90th birthday, peacefully, in her home in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she lived with her son and his family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Painter Sr., parents, Henry James and Margaret Mary (Malloy) Horsman, and two brothers, Harry and John Horsman. She is survived by her son, Robert C. Painter Jr., his wife Rona, their daughter Melanie Leigh Hager and her husband Samuel Otto Hager, and their son John Michael Painter; her daughter, Dr. Catherine J. Painter, and her husband Noel Lim, their children Brendan William Lim and Ligaya Marialena Lim; and her sister Margaret Rita (known as Susie) Forsthoffer and her husband George Forsthoffer. Mary Ellen was first employed by the Westinghouse Air Brake Company in Wilmerding as a drafter and then for many years as a nurse's aide at Jeannette District Memorial Hospital, delivering exceptional and compassionate care. Mary Ellen was an especially kind and beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all who came to know her. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Mary Ellen's name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Family and friends will be received at the Kutch Funeral Home on January 9 followed by a small private graveside service at St. Joseph's Cemetery in North Versailles.
