Mary Selma Ownby, age 92, resident of Knox County, native of Bradley County, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday morning, August 25, 2021.
Mary was a long-time member of Valley Grove Baptist Church on Ball Camp Pike in Knoxville. She received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 12 and read her bible faithfully every day. Mary loved gardening, canning, flowers, camping, birds, quilting and was know for her good home cooking.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sherrell D. Ownby, sons, Davis R. Ownby and Morris "Perry" Ownby, parents, Vernon Bryan Gold and Lena Randolph Gold; infant sister, Nancy.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Maria Ownby, Bernard and Pam Ownby; daughters-in-law, Sharon Ownby and Vicki Ownby all of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Shannon Hill, Ryan, Justin and Jason Ownby; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Joan Gold; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles Ownby, Judy Ownby, Adrian and Diane Ownby all of Cleveland; four nephews; one niece; special friends, Barbara Ely, Chris Buckner and numerous more precious friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Click Funeral Home Middlebrook Chapel with a Celebration of Life to follow at 6:30 with Rev. Nathan Williams, Rev. Austin Moore and Rev. Tony Maples officiating.
Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for graveside services.
