Mary Ann Neale, 88, of Vandergrift, went to live eternally with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, July 3, 2022. Born May 16, 1934, in Vandergrift, she was a daughter of the late Saverio "Sam" Mendicino and Virginia (Maglocci) Mendicino. Mary lived in Vandergrift all of her life, and was previously married to the late Donald Virostek, a well-known college basketball star at the University of Pittsburgh and highly respected dentist in Vandergrift. Mary was the author of the book "That's OK God!", written about her emotional and spiritual struggle during and after her husband, Don's, passing, with the intention of helping others going through the loss of a loved one. Mary's passion in life was to serve God with her whole heart. She taught the Bible to teenagers at St. Gertrude Church for 14 years, conducted Bible classes for women for 20 years at Pittsburgh East Church and encouraged many children and adults with her love, prayers and compassion. In 1991, Mary became the bride of a minister, the Rev. Archie W. Neale, received her ministry license in 1993 and served the congregation of Pittsburgh East in Plum for 22 years in the ministry of pastoral care and hospital visitation, which was called "Neals on Wheels." In addition to her parents and first husband Don, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Isabel Rendik and Josephine Moliterno. Mary is survived by her husband, Archie; sister, Rose Szymanski; and brother, Samuel (Peg) Mendicino. She is also survived by four children, Judy (Mike) Holizna, Andrew (Kati) Virostek, Tina (Paul) Strutt and stepson, Brian Neale. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren: Nicole Couch, Kelly, Kristen and Travis Strutt, Donald, Andrew, Miki, and Jacob Virostek and Lexi Holizna. She was also a great-grandmother to Joey Couch; and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, in the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Private services with entombment in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, will be held at the convenience of the family.
