After a five-year battle with cancer, Mary LeAnn Mynatt is safe in the arms of Jesus. Surrounded by friends and loved ones, she died October 3, 2018. Born in Knoxville August 24, 1965, she is survived by her parents William (Bill) and Shirley Mynatt, sister Elizabeth Galloway (T. J.), beloved nephews Tyler, Timothy, and Baker. She treasured her relationships with her aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her cherished friends far and wide.
LeAnn graduated from Farragut High School, graduated cum laude from the University of Tennessee (1987), and received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from UT Law School in 1990. She was an environmental attorney for Baker Donelson for 20 years, receiving many awards: Best Lawyers in America in Environmental Law since 2007; Best Lawyers in America 2016 Knoxville Environmental Litigation "Lawyer of the Year'; Mid-South Super Lawyers 2011 and 2012; Top Attorney in Environmental Law in City View magazine 2007 and 2012; Adjunct Professor, Environmental Law & Policy, University of Tennessee College of Law 2008. Her most cherished award was the ABA Courage in the Face of Adversity award 2015.
LeAnn was a dedicated runner, even after her diagnosis of cancer. She loved the beach; Lady Vol Basketball; her Chi Omega sisters; her oncologist, Dr. Larry Kilgore; and his wonderful staff at UT Cancer Institute.
When she could no longer run competitively, she became passionate about ovarian cancer awareness and fundraising to benefit local patients. She appeared on television, spoke to nursing classes, promoted an ovarian cancer support group, organized annual fundraisers and benefits, and told her story to thousands.
