Mary Frances Page Morphis passed away peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law by her side at Brookridge Retirement Community on February 4, 2024, at the age of 99. She was born in 1924 in Wilmington NC, the daughter of the late Eva Montrose Simms and Stephen Franklin Page, the sixth of eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther and son Kenny and is survived by her daughter Ellen and husband Steve, grandchildren Joseph, Jon, Alex and daughter-in-law Beth.
Mary Frances graduated from New Hanover HS in Wilmington and went on earn a RN from Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans and a BA from Georgetown College in Louisville, KY. After getting her degrees she served with the Foreign Mission Board as a nurse at the Baptist Hospital in Eku, Nigeria.
After returning from Nigeria she married her husband Luther whom she met at Southern Baptist Seminary and served with him in the pastorate of Burgaw Baptist Church and Haymore Baptist Church in Mt. Airy. In 1963 they were approved to serve with the Foreign Mission Board in West Germany. They spent the next 34 years raising their family and leading churches in Augsburg, West Berlin, Heidelberg, Nuremberg and Vienna, Austria. They returned to the US for a year before accepting assignments with the Foreign Mission Board in Nigeria, West Africa, Tokyo, Japan and finished where they began, in Augsburg Germany.
Returning home to Winston Salem, she enjoyed a well-deserved retirement while staying active in her local church and speaking with various churches and groups, representing the cause for mission work. Mary Frances spent a lifetime of service to her family, friends and the Foreign Mission Board, living a long and amazing life.
The family would like to express their gratefulness for the care provided by the Brookridge staff, ComForCare, and Trellis Supportive Care. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
