Mary D. Morgan, 77, of Crestwood passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021. She was born to the now-late Daniel Boone Morgan and Mary Louise McLeod Morgan on November 30, 1943, in Tallulah, Louisiana. Mary is survived by her son, Forrest Jefferson (Valerie Howlett) Day; one granddaughter, Caitlyn (Roman Benard) Day; two step-granddaughters, Jenna and Hannah Roseman; one step-great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Bruner; two siblings, Sara Kay Morgan and Kenneth Morgan; and one niece, Maria Morgan Betts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt, Mildred Bowman. With more than 50 years of professional experience to her name, Mary D. Morgan has acted as a librarian for the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex in La Grange, Kentucky, since 2000. Prior to entering her current role, she worked as a social worker with a number of institutions, including the Hospice of Central Kentucky in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, from 1993 to 2000, Lincoln Trail District Home Health in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, from 1997 to 1998, and Gentiva Health Services in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1995. From 1979 to 1993, she was with Hardin County Schools as a teacher, also serving as director of the media center and print operations from 1982 to 1987. Earlier in her career, she served as a teacher with Webster County Schools from 1975 to 1979, having been a librarian with Jefferson County Schools from 1968 to 1975 and with Ascension Parish Schools from 1966 to 1968. Growing up, Ms. Morgan was inspired to go into teaching by her mother. Moreover, she was attracted to the library because of her high school mentor, Idele Wilson. Before establishing herself as a trusted voice in the field, she sought to expand her knowledge through the pursuit of a formal education at a number of esteemed academic institutions. She first attended Louisiana College in Pineville, Louisiana, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. She continued her studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and obtained a Master of Library Science in 1968. In 1976, she graduated from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, with a Master of Arts in education. Ultimately, she achieved a Master of Social Work from the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1992. Subsequently, she became a certified social worker in the states of Kentucky and Indiana. A respected voice in the industry, Ms. Morgan is affiliated with a number of prestigious organizations. She is a member of the American Library Association, the National Association of Social Workers, and the National Education Association, where she holds a lifetime membership. She is further associated with the American Association of University Women, the Correctional Peace Officers Association, and The Filson Historical Society. Additionally, she has been the secretary of the Kentucky Library Network Board in Frankfort, Kentucky, from 1986 to 1987 and president of the Webster County Education Association in Dixon, Kentucky, from 1977 to 1978. Throughout her career, Ms. Morgan has gained recognition many times for her accomplishments in the form of various awards and accolades. Notably, she earned the Outstanding Service Award in 2015. In the coming years, she intends to go to hospitals in central Louisville to comfort babies who are drug-addicted. In light of her contributions to the field, she has previously been selected for inclusion in numerous editions of honors publications, including 16 editions of Who's Who in America, two editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, one edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, 16 editions of Who's Who in the World, and nine editions of Who's Who of American Women. She was notably profiled in the 72nd edition of Who's Who in America, which was published in 2019. Ms. Morgan was born on November 30, 1943, in Tallulah, Louisiana, to mother Mary Louise McLeod Morgan and father Daniel Boone Morgan. She is now the proud mother of one child named Forrest Jefferson Day as well as grandmother to one granddaughter. In her free time, she enjoys reading, gardening and travelling. Her graveside service was held on Friday, August 20th, 11am at Lexington Cemetery, 833 W. Main Street, Lexington, KY 40508.
