Mary Carroll Merrill (Brandau), passed away in Jacksonville, FL on January 1, 2022, at the age of 91. Mary Carroll was born in Baltimore, MD on September 21, 1930. She married Frederick L Merrill in 1954 and moved to Evanston, IL where her three children were born. During her life Mary Carroll lived in Neenah, WI where her children grew up, as well as Racine, WI, New Orleans, LA, Columbia, SC, Lexington, MA (where she helped raise her granddaughter) and finally Jacksonville, FL where her youngest son and his wife reside. Mary Carroll, or MC as she liked to be called, was an avid reader, a fan of classic movies, and loved animals (especially dogs). She volunteered at numerous organizations throughout her life, donating time and compassion to hospice, child advocacy, and public libraries in the various places she lived. She was an avid tennis player in her younger years and a consummate fan as she grew older. She was also a devoted mother to her children and her grandchild. As the youngest of 6 children, she was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. She is survived by her three children, Frederick L. Merrill Jr (Wendy Krum), Lynn E. Merrill and Stuart A. Merrill (Shelly); a granddaughter Corey Brockman Merrill (Matthew Brockman) and great grandson Hays Merrill Brockman. Mary Carroll was a spiritual person who had many friends throughout her life. She selflessly provided her family and friends counsel and prayers and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mary Carroll was wonderfully cared for in the last few years by the staff and her many friends at Camellia Retirement Community. We thank the Camellia family for the many kindnesses and professionalism. In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Jacksonville Humane Society, www.jaxhumane.org
