Mary Martha May passed on April 14, 2022, at home in Springfield, VT, with family at her side, after an extended battle with leukemia.
Mary was born April 28, 1960, in Boston, MA, as the first child of Ann Stillson Comstock and Carlton Roy Comstock. She grew up on a farm in Scarborough, ME, and graduated from Scarborough High School.
She met Walter Danny May in Burlington, VT, and they were married in 1986, in Las Vegas, NV and they had a daughter, Tasha Michelle May. They later divorced. She met Kenneth Bantum in New York, and they had a daughter, Corina Rachel Bantum. Her daughters were an invariable topic of conversation and source of great pride for her, and she fretted for them like a mother hen.
Most of Mary's career was in front-office positions, aided by her cheerful can-do disposition and her organizational skills. This included time as a receptionist and as an executive assistant; she worked in a number of states, including Maine, Vermont, New York, and Minnesota as she actively pursued and lived her life.
During her working years she lived in city apartments, so it was with great joy that she finally purchased a home of her own, with a yard to tend, and a neighborhood community to embrace. Mary loved working outdoors, gardening, and was known to be out walking, with a cheerful word for anyone she met. She was an avid reader, enjoyed creating fine jewelry, and while living in New York she became a faithful follower of the Boston Bruins.
Mary is survived by her parents and her daughters, her sisters Jane C. Cannon, and Ann Elizabeth Maki (Wade), and brothers Carlton "Sam" Roy Comstock Jr (Laurie), and Chris A. Comstock, six aunts and uncles, eight nieces and nephews (predeceased by one nephew), and her much loved cat, Sweet Pea.
The family is grateful for the compassionate assistance from Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire. Mary suggested, if you are able, to make a contribution by way of donation to, or participation in, The Prouty to support research and patient services at Dartmouth Cancer Center. There will be a celebration of life, to be announced at a future date.
Davis Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
