Mary Ann Markowski, 94, of Exeter, passed away on Aug. 17, 2022, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her daughter, Annie Markowski Toole.
She was born in Wyoming on May 24, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Michael Benowski and Rose Salus, and step-father Anthony Mazonis.
Mary Ann graduated from Exeter High School and worked at Topps Chewing Gum and Sabatini's Pizza for most of her adult life. She stopped working at age 90.
She loved her family dearly. She expressed her love for others by her daily prayers, which included Mass, rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet and novenas. She especially prayed for family, friends and others who had no one to pray for them.
She enjoyed attending the Kingston Active Adult Center, word puzzles, the Philadelphia Phillies, bingo and ice cream. She was always curious and wanting to learn more.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph "Mexie" Markowski; and grandson, Ronald Litchkofski Jr.
Mary Ann is survived by her sons, Michael and Patricia, State College; Joseph and Barbara, Salem, N.H.; Anthony, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; John, Wyoming; Albert and Bonnie, Plains Twp.; daughters, Rosemary and Mike Miller, Laceyville; Ann and Dr. Joseph Toole, Wilkes-Barre; Kathryn Shaffer-Piscopo and Ed Piscopo, Bala Cynwyd; 13 grandchildren, Paul (Marisa), Andrew (Jenell), Jonathan, Anthony, David (Holly), Melissa (Kyle), LeeAnn, Dylan, Emily, Bryan, Sophie, David and Sam; 12 great-grandchildren, Nolan, Shane, Elyse, Layne, Karis, Vivienne, Isabella, Lydia, Noel, Aiden, Aurora and Asher; brother, John Benowski and his wife, Marge; sister, Kathryn Kerr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony of Padua Church, of St. Barbara Parish, 224 Memorial St., Exeter. The Rev. James Alco will be the celebrant.
Interment will be private with her family.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass in the church. Relatives and friends are invited to the Mass and asked to wear bright colors for the celebration of Mary Ann's life.
Arrangements are in the care of Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
The family requests no flowers or food.
