Mary Lyn was born on November 29, 1949 in Killeen, TX, outside Ft. Hood where her father was stationed. Died peacefully at home November 18, 2021.
Mary Lyn completed her doctorate in comparative literature at University of Washington, was a Fulbright fellow in Rome, Italy and a three-time National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow. She retired early from teaching following a catestrophic auto accident.
Mary Lyn was an enthusiastic member of the WW Husky Marching Band (cymbols, drums) and remained an avid Husky fan throughout her life. In addition she was an avid reader, enjoyed her gardens and took great pleasure in playing with her cats.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Kalnin. She was preceded in death by her three sisters. She is survived by her brother. She had many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.
Burial Mass is cheduled for 10:00 a.m. on December 14, 2021 at Christ Our Hope Catholic Church, 1902 Second Ave, Seattle, WA (Second Ave at Stewart Street) Enter through the Josephinum lobby. Due to Covid protocols, there will be no formal reception. Cemetary service at Tahoma National Cemetary will be at a later time. In lieu of flowers, gifts to ASPCA, Husky Band Alumni Parnership Fund, Forest Ridge School or a favorite charity would be appreciated.
