Mary was born on May 7, 1945 to Ford and Bernice Fullingim, in Sweetwater, Texas. She was raised in Abilene, Texas, where she completed her public school education. After graduating from Texas Tech with a degree in Spanish and a minor in English, she began her teaching career in Houston and Dickinson, Texas.
She met her future husband, Bill Lees, when she returned to Texas Tech and obtained a Masters Degree in Education. She spent the remainder of her 41 year career as an educator with the Lubbock Independent School District as an elementary school counselor and educational diagnostician.
She and Bill were married in November, 1969, and they were just short of their 53rd anniversary when she was called home by her Heavenly Father.
Mary was a member of several organizations including Phi Delta Kappa, Daughters of the American Revolution, Texas Retired Teachers, Zeta Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She was also elected to Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals for 1988-1989.
She enjoyed working with ceramics, painting, playing the piano, and raising their daughter, Kathryn Carla Clapsaddle, who, with her husband, Carl, blessed Bill and Mary with two beautiful granddaughters, Haley Grace, and Hannah Elizabeth. She is also survived by a brother, Richard Mallett, and his wife Valerie and their two children, David and Jennifer, of San Diego, California.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Monsignor Ben Kasteel officiating. Please celebrate the life of Mary by visiting www.sandersfuneralhome.com. A webcast of services will be available as well as our online guest book.
