Mrs. Mary M. Knight, age 74, of Sandersville, died Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Doctors Hospital following a short illness. A graveside service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, May 27th in Zeta Cemetery in Tennille with Reverend Roy Smith officiating. Pallbearers will include Alan Amerson, Taylor Everett, Steven Lindsey, Lee Malphus, Patrick Phillips, Tracy Rowe, Allen Smith, and Jett Williams.
Mrs. Knight was born in Screven County, the daughter of the late Ernest Elliot Malphus and the late Cora Morton Mingledorff. She was reared in Effingham County where she graduated from Effingham County High School in 1965. Most of Mary's working career centered around her talent as a seamstress, lastly as a co-owner of Designs with Style, located in downtown Sandersville. She also formerly worked in bookkeeping for Childre Chevrolet and Washington County High School. Mary was a member of Tennille United Methodist Church. She loved shopping, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include, her husband, Jerry C. Knight of Sandersville; her son, Scott Knight and his wife Holly; and her daughter, Scarlett Lindsey and her husband Jason all of Tennille; siblings, Ronnie Malphus and his wife Linda of Springfield, William Malphus of Clyo and Susie Roundtree of Tennille; and grandchildren, Mathan Lindsey, Meriel Lindsey, Aiden Knight and Abigail Knight all of Tennille.
The family will be at their residence on Mrytle Way in Sandersville, and they will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
