Mary Ann Kelly, 81, of Clear Lake City, Houston, Texas died Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
Mary Ann was born December 25, 1938 in Muscatine, Iowa to Harry and Anna (Bingeli) McNeal. She attended school in Muscatine, graduating from Muscatine High School in the class of 1956. After earning an associate degree from Muscatine Community College, she taught grade school until her marriage to William J. Kelly on June 10, 1961.
Mary Ann and Bill moved to Burlington, Iowa where they raised three children. While the children were young, Mary Ann worked at home as a seamstress, making seasonal wardrobes, wedding and other special occasion outfits to order. Once the children were in school, she went to work as an aide and librarian at Blackhawk Elementary School where she stayed until her retirement in 1997. In retirement, Mary Ann and Bill moved to Houston to be close to their grandchildren.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Betty Jean. She is survived by children Joe (Michelle) of Houston, Chris (Mark) of Saint Paul, Minnesota and Jim of Houston; and grandchildren Connor, Ryan, Caitlin, Anna, Parker and Griffin.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a memorial service will be planned later in 2021. Mary Ann was a supporter of many worthy causes. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Houston Food Bank, Doctors without Borders or ACLU.
