Mary Alice Jones Weeks, age 81, went home to the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Monday, March 14, 2022. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 14, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Leslie H. Jones, Sr. and Marietta Ward Jones. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Jones Joyner; her sisters-in-law, Ray Bass Jones, Mary Moore Weeks Petty, Martha Barnes Weeks Gupton, and Lois Weeks; her brothers-in-law, Ryland T. "Curly" Williamson, Joseph H. Weeks, John S. Weeks, Robert E. Weeks, Vernon Petty, and Grover Gupton.
Mary grew up on the corner of Villa and Chester streets and was a proud graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High. She worked as a receptionist for Carolina Telephone and as a crossing guard for Battle Elementary School. Mary also worked for several years as a substitute teacher in Nash-Rocky Mount Schools. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, and she spent many years with the members of classes at Nash Community College. Mary enjoyed researching her family trees and discovered fer family's history back to England. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, and Granny to her family as well as being dedicated to Westview Baptist Church as a long-time nursey volunteer.
Mary is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Linwood C. Weeks, Sr.; her sons, Linwood C. Weeks, Jr. and daughter-in-love, Dee Davis, of Rocky Mount, David W. Weeks and daughter-in-law, Anica Weeks, of Nashville, Tim S. Weeks, of Cary, and Kenneth L. Weeks and daughter-in-love, Erin Roarty, of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Anna, Ian, and Mazzy Weeks, all of Raleigh; her sister, Marie Jones Williamson, of Rocky Mount; her brother, Leslie H. Jones, Jr., of Rocky Mount; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Mary Alice's Life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Westview Baptist Church, 3408 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Westview Baptist Church.
