Mary Jane (n?e Lyons) McMullin, 76, born and raised in Philadelphia was the middle child and only daughter of John V. and Mary (n?e McGonigle) Lyons. Mary Jane attended Catholic schools, where she excelled in talking, enjoying herself and raising the ire of the nuns. St. Joseph's College (Philadelphia) is where Mary Jane caught the attention of her eventual partner in life, Joseph R. McMullin.
On an Air Force base in Montana, Mary Jane welcomed two of her three children, Maureen and Joseph, Jr. Mary Katherine (Kassie), her third child, was born in Akron where the family had settled for the next 45 years in Silver Lake. Mary Jane raised her family with heavy doses of humor, fun and dinner parties. Opinions and wisdom were dispensed in equal measure with love. Eventually Mary Jane returned to outside employment and found her niche as an office manager for a psychological practice.
Grandchildren transformed Mary Jane. "Grammy's my name, spoiling's my game," read one of her ubiquitous aprons and was practiced during sleepovers, shopping and dining adventures. Kindness to others in need was one of Grammy's main hallmarks that she practiced. A welcoming spirit was yet another attribute. Grammy would happily squeeze another plate and chair around her already crowded table.
On April 27th Mary Jane returned to God the Father. It was a joyous reunion for her and Kassie, who predeceased her in 2004. She is also predeceased by her parents and her two brothers, John Jr. and Edward. Grammy leaves behind Joseph, her companion of 54 years; daughter Maureen Michalak; son Joseph, Jr (Ann Marie); son-in-law and adopted daughter-in-law Michael and Kim Biglow; grandchildren: Molly, Michael & Allie, Sean, Katherine and Joseph Patrick. Mary Jane also leaves behind countless wonderful friends. Grammy loved her family and friends unconditionally.
