Mary Ann was born on November 6, 1936 to Edward Butler and Inez Puckett-Butler in Tyler Texas. Mary Ann died on January 29, 2021. She lived an active, vivacious life for 84 years. She was a beautiful spirit with a beautiful mind who also had a ferocious appetite for living life to the fullest and loving many to include her immediate and extended family and many many dear friends.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Grace Avenue Methodist Church on 3521 Main Street in Frisco.
Mary Ann graduated from Tyler High School and subsequently graduated from Tyler Junior College. She worked as a legal clerk in Sherman Texas for a short period of time before she began a career with Cigna Insurance Company in 1976. She retired from Cigna when she and her husband, Charles Lee moved back to Tyler Texas, where Charles ultimately retired. While in Tyler, in 2010 Mary Ann was widowed. On June 7th, 2014, Mary Ann began a new chapter in her life when she married James A. Holcomb, Sr. (Jim) and has spent the past six (6) years traveling, enjoying life and exploring her passions.
Mary Ann had many passions to include; Seamstress, Master Gardener, Avid Mahjong player and teacher, and excellent, excellent Chef. Mary Ann traveled extensively to Countries which include; Africa, Russia, Italy, Mexico, Ireland and numerous locations within the United States.
She was raised as a Southern Baptist, but joined the United Methodist Church and was a loyal member of the Methodist Church and devout Christian woman. She was voted the "Most Ideal Girl" in 1954 by her church community.
Her real passion was her family. She would often keep her 5 Grandchildren all at the same time for days at a time. She was the Matriarch of her family. She was the glue to our family.
Mary Ann was predeceased in death by her Father Edward Butler, Mother Inez Puckett-Butler and Brother John Jones. She is survived by an extensive family which includes; Husband James A Holcomb Sr. (Jim) and family; Sister-in-Law Martha Jones; Daughter and Son-in-Law, Karen and Doug Smith; Son and Daughter-in-Law, Charles T Jr. (Tommy) and Jamie Lee; Granddaughters and Grand Son-In-Laws; Lauren and Michael Dement, Lindsey and Wes Winget, Dannie and Ronnie Johnson, Taylor and Grayson Wafford, Brooke and Johnson Tyler Samford. Great Grand-Children; Ellington Johnson, Emerson Winget, Wynne Wafford, Millie Johnson, Lennon Dement, Jameson Winget, Grace Wafford and Paxton Lee Samford who will join Mary Ann's family as the 8th Great Grandchild.
Members of the Holcomb Family include; Jim Holcomb Jr. and Whitney Cardwell, Lauren Holcomb, Amber Holcomb,; Alane and Chuck Miller, Hattie Mae Miller and Axel Miller, Emily and Jeff McKinney, Marshall McKinney Mitchell McKinney, Meredith and Brett Zito, Molly McKinney.
