Mary Catherine Maurer Hobin, age 91 joined her beloved husband, William Frank Hobin Sr., in heaven on October 4, 2020. Interment was in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas. She was born in Greensboro, N.C. on August 10, 1929 to Arthur and Esther Maurer. As a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, Mary was a professional in the women's workforce at various businesses in Downtown Dallas. Mary met her best friend, Bill at a Catholic Singles Dance in Pleasant Grove. They were married at St. Joseph's Church in 1950 and moved to Dallas. She was a long time fixture of the Dallas Catholic School systems including food service manager of Bishop Lynch and St. Pius X, as well as a member of St. Pius X Rosary Makers guild, and den mother to her children's classrooms. Nearing her 50th birthday, Mary Catherine heard the Medical Calling and became a nurse after graduating from the LVN Program at El Centro, Downtown Dallas. Following her Pinning, she worked for many years at Dr's Hospital (now City Hospital), at White Rock. Her courage has inspired many family members to follow in her medical footsteps. As a busy mother of six, Mary enjoyed fulfilling careers, hobbies, as well as a second residence in Wills Point in Willow Lake Estate. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Athur Jr. (Sonny), and sisters Sister Mariam Maurer (CDP), Sarah. Survivors include her sister, Sister Imelda Maurer (CDP), Billy and Verna Lee (Hobin)Young, and children; Frank, Cynthia, Margaret, Judy, Jimmy and David., along with 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews from Canada, Alaska, Montanna, Washington, Kansas, and throughout Texas. A Rosary for Mary Catherine was held on Wednesday, October 7 at 7pm at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home. A Graveside service was held on Thursday, October 8 at 1:00pm at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas. The family of Mary Catherine Hobin asks that in lieu of flowers, you would consider a donation in Mary Catherine's name to your favorite charity. They would also like to ask that instead of bringing food to the family's home or to the service for the family, you would donate it to the North Texas Food Bank, or any other local food bank.
