Mary Elizabeth (Harrington) Sullivan

Ferndale, Washington - Mary Elizabeth (Harrington) Sullivan, of Ferndale, passed away peacefully on November 30th, at the age of 79. She was born to Michael Joseph and Anna Veronica (Gish) Harrington in Olean, NY on March 21, 1945. Then in 1954 Mary's father, an employee of Socony Vacuum Refinery, moved the family across the country to settle in Ferndale where his employment continued with the flying red horse, Mobil Oil Corporation. Mary graduated from Ferndale High School in 1963 at which time she began her career at the Ferndale Dental Office, working for Dr. Grant Nelson. She continued her devoted service under Dr. Ronald Dahl and retired from the Ferndale Dental Clinic on August 20, 2010, after an incredible 46 years of care and commitment. Mary was well-loved by her colleagues and patients alike, always bringing warmth and compassion to her work. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother; she found her strength in life through her faith in the Catholic Church. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Molly Sullivan, Kelly (Sullivan) Toner, and Michael Sullivan, who were the greatest joys of her life. Mary's love and wisdom also touched the lives of her four beloved grandchildren: Bobby Harkleroad, James Harkleroad, Melanie Harkleroad, and Joseph Harkleroad. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James, Joseph and Michael Harrington. She is survived by her siblings, Julia McMurray, Paul Harrington, David Harrington and Ann Hanna, including numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was known for her warm heart, infectious smile, and unwavering support for those she cared about. Her strength, compassion, and humor were a guiding light for her family and friends, creating a legacy of love that will endure for generations. Though Mary's time with us has ended, her spirit and the memories she created will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. The family invites all who knew Mary to a celebration of her life. A Funeral Mass will be held at Assumption Catholic Church, 2116 Cornwall Ave, Bellingham on Friday, January 17, 2025 at 10:30 A.M., followed by a graveside committal at 12:00 Noon at Woodlawn Cemetery, 5977 Northwest Dr, Ferndale. Following the graveside service there will be a reception at United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Whatcom Hospice.
