Mrs. Mary Knight Hamby, 83, of Smyrna, Georgia passed away Wednesday March 17, 2021, at her residence.
She was born October 4th, 1937 in Lagrange, GA to Rev. John H Knight and Bonnie Hale Knight. She moved to Smyrna, GA in 1951 where her father took over as minister of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Campbell High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, in 1957, Arnold R. Hamby (Campbell High School class of 1954).
They had two sons Carl R. Hamby and John R. Hamby. She was a dedicated member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church for 70 years and sang in the choir for 65 years. She loved every choir member especially the Choir Master ("Jimmy Boy" Ogburn). It thrilled her to see so many young new members in the church.
Mary babysat many kids over the years. She worked for the City Of Smyrna as a hostess at Aunt Fanny's Cabin, for 7 years. She never met a stranger. She lived in the same home for 62 years.
Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John H Knight and Bonnie Hale Knight, and her son, Carl R. Hamby.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Arnold R. Hamby of Smyrna, GA. One sister Gracia Deen (husband- Shaheen Deen) of Las Vegas, NV. One son, John R. Hamby (Wife- Connie Hamby), of Smyrna, GA. One Daughter-in-law, Shirley Hamby, whom she loved like a daughter she never had, of Acworth, GA. Three Grandsons, Joshua R. Hamby of TN, Ryan T. Hamby of Smyrna, GA, and David T. Hamby, of Acworth, GA. One Granddaughter, Carley C. Hamby ("her angel") of Acworth, GA. Two Great- Granddaughters Olivia and Allison Hamby, of TN. One ex- granddaughter- in-law, Jackie Hamby of TN.
She will be missed by so many but she is with her Lord and reunited with her parents and son. As she would say, "See you in the funny papers."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Smyrna Presbyterian Church Choir Fund.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, March 20, 2021 at the Smyrna Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Joel Smit officiating. Interment will be in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna. Carmichael Funeral Home in Smyrna is in charge of arrangements.
