ROCKY MOUNT - Mary Gorman Hammond, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Born in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland on June 3, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John Gorman and Mary McDonald Hedley. She was also preceded in death by her son, James William Hammond; and her brothers, Edward, Angus, and Arthur Gorman.
Mary was a member of Daughter of Eastern Star of North Ayrshire, Scotland. She worked as a cosmetologist for many years. Mary was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her husband of 60 years, James Hammond; her son, David Hammond; her grandson, David James Hammond; and her great-grandchildren, Kai Hammond and Meika Hammond.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Mary's life will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
