Mary Lynn (Ollis) Garland, 82, of Stanley, NC passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday March 21, 2023. Mary was a long time resident of Stanley, but she was born in Mitchell County, NC and she never felt far from her Mountain roots. Mary graduated from Bowman High School in 1959 where she was an all-county basketball player and proudly wore the number 35.
Mary loved the outdoors and she enjoyed hiking and exploring new trails with her husband, LH. Mary also enjoyed quilting and crocheting and she spent many hours making each of her children a beautiful quilt to enjoy and cherish her memory. Her family, friends and neighbors will all miss her dearly.
Mary is the daughter of the late Sally (Barrier) Ollis and Sanford Ollis. Her sister Inez Haney and brother Hayden Ollis have also gone on before her.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, LH Garland of the home and her children; daughter Judy Boylan and her husband Patrick and sons Scott Garland and his wife Danielle and Dennis Garland his wife Janet. Missing their grandmother are her three grandchildren, Alyssa, Zachary and Christopher. Her brother, Paul Ollis of Fayetteville, NC is grieving the loss of his sister.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life service at a later date.
